MILESBURG -- A PennDOT preservation project on Interstate 80 near Milesburg is scheduled to begin Wednesday with lane closures that will affect traffic in Centre County.
Beginning Wednesday, July 15, motorists traveling westbound on I-80 will encounter temporary daytime lane closures between mile markers 163 and 156 as crews complete patching along the center and edge lines.
Starting Monday, July 20, the contractor will implement a long-term closure of the left (passing) lane on eastbound I-80 through the same stretch. A 12-foot width restriction will be in effect while the lane is closed.
PennDOT said the work overlaps with the ongoing High-Speed Interchange project at the Interstate 80/99 interchange. Crews on that project will complete shoulder backup and other work during the same period to minimize future traffic disruptions.
The preservation project includes milling and paving nearly 12 miles of roadway, preservation work on four bridges, installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems devices, guide rail upgrades, line painting and other improvements.
Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., of State College, is the contractor on the $13.5 million project. PennDOT expects work for this construction season to continue through November before resuming during the 2027 construction season.
Motorists are advised that construction schedules are subject to change because of weather or other conditions. PennDOT said it will provide traffic updates as work progresses.
