From staff reports
SUNBURY — United Plate Glass has earned certification through the North American Contractor Certification (NACC) Program for Architectural Glass and Metal Contractors, becoming one of a limited number of companies in Pennsylvania to receive the designation.
The Sunbury-based company announced it recently completed the certification process, which evaluates contractors on competency, business practices, safety standards and quality management systems.
According to United Plate Glass President Nate Lawrence, the company began pursuing certification at the end of 2025.
“UPG has been in business for over 45 years, and we will never stop looking for ways to improve,” Lawrence said. “This certification assures our customers that we are dedicated to delivering high-quality products and providing an excellent level of competency, safety and service.”

United Plate Glass is the 11th glazing contractor in Pennsylvania to earn NACC certification and the first in the state to be certified in all eight operational categories recognized by the program. The company is also the only certified glazing contractor based in central Pennsylvania.
The certification process included an assessment of the company’s safety practices, business operations and quality management systems, as well as an inspection of an active job site.
NACC officials said the program recognizes companies that maintain documented policies and procedures throughout their organizations, helping ensure consistent quality and performance.
Glazing contractors can earn certification in categories including interior and exterior entry systems, interior glazing, low-rise and high-rise building envelopes, horizontal glazing, active glass and service work. United Plate Glass earned certification in all eight categories.
“NACC allows glazing contractors to demonstrate — through an independent third party and documented evidence — that they take the right steps to deliver the best possible quality and safety to their clients,” NACC Program Manager Scott Kennett said in a statement.
Founded more than four decades ago, United Plate Glass serves commercial and residential customers throughout the region. Annual reviews are required for companies to maintain certification status.
