Police seek input from victims of violence

STATE COLLEGE — The State College Police Department is seeking participants for a series of confidential interviews aimed at improving services and support for victims and survivors of intimate partner violence.

According to the department, interviews will be conducted with individuals who have experienced domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking. Participants will be asked to share their experiences interacting with police, advocates, medical professionals and the court system, as well as any barriers they faced when seeking assistance.

Police said the information gathered will be used to identify ways to improve access to resources, reduce barriers to support and enhance responses from law enforcement and service providers.

Interviews are scheduled to take place in early June at the State College Borough Building or virtually if needed. Each interview is expected to last between 30 and 45 minutes and will be conducted individually and confidentially. Participants may request to speak only with civilian staff if they are uncomfortable interacting with police.

The interview panel will include a State College police officer or detective, a civilian social worker and an advocate from Centre Safe. Participants will receive a Target gift card upon completion of the interview.

Individuals interested in participating can contact Officer Kyleen Abrahamson at (814) 231-3086, ext. 3229, or by email at kabrahamson@statecollegepa.us for additional information or to schedule an interview.

Starting at $2.99/week.
