Celebration of the Arts returns June 13 with music, exhibits
From staff reports
HUNTINGDON — The Huntingdon County Arts Council will host its annual Celebration of the Arts open house from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Huntingdon County Arts Center.
The free event will feature live music, hands-on art activities, demonstrations, exhibits and food throughout the day.
“The Celebration of the Arts is our annual open house to proudly showcase the Huntingdon County Arts Center to the community and offers a number of free activities and music for the whole family to enjoy,” Executive Director John Kearns said.
Entertainment will include performances by dancers from the Huntingdon Dance Academy, as well as J.T. Thompson, the Centre Bassoon Consort and the Celestial Sounds Choir.
According to Program Coordinator Barbara Sanchez, the Centre Bassoon Consort is a regional chamber music ensemble based in central Pennsylvania. A bassoon consort consists of musicians performing together on instruments from the bassoon family, often presenting chamber music and arrangements of early musical works.
The Celestial Sounds Choir, directed by Laurel Sanders, is a 30-member choir from the Centre County area. Organizers said the performance will mark the group’s first appearance in Huntingdon County.
Visitors will also be able to participate in hands-on workshops, including flower pounding, basic quilling and rock painting, and observe artists during live demonstrations. A local Girl Scout troop will offer activities for children, and face painting will be available for attendees of all ages.
The event will also provide an opportunity to view the current exhibit, Living Out Loud.
Additional activities will include a bake sale hosted by the Huntingdon Humane Society and a yard sale in the arts center parking lot.
Food will be available from Standing Stone United Methodist Church in the social hall, while EZ Concessions will offer funnel cakes, fried Oreos and fresh lemonade.
The Arts Center’s Art Shoppe will also be open, featuring works by local artists available for purchase.
The Celebration of the Arts will be held at the Huntingdon County Arts Center, 313 12th St., Huntingdon, in the former 12th Street Methodist Church at the corner of 12th and Mifflin streets. Admission is free.
