Aurand receives Snyder County 4-H Foundation Educational Award

MIDDLEBURG -- Maura Aurand, a senior at Midd-West High School, has been awarded an educational scholarship through the Snyder County 4-H Foundation in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement, leadership and long-standing involvement in 4-H.
Aurand, the daughter of Amos and Amanda Aurand, has been an active member of 4-H for 12 years, most recently with the Big Dreamers 4-H Club. Throughout her 4-H career, she has demonstrated a strong commitment to personal growth, leadership, and community service.
Aurand ranks among the top students in her class and has maintained an impressive academic record, with a cumulative weighted grade-point average above 95. She has participated in numerous academic and extracurricular activities, including student council, athletics and vocal ensemble.
Aurand's 4-H experience has been highlighted by a wide range of livestock projects. Her first project began at age eight with a breeding beef heifer, sparking her passion for agriculture and teaching her valuable life skills such as responsibility, discipline, and sportsmanship. In recent years, she achieved one of her top accomplishments by earning Grand Champion Market Goat at the 2024 fair, reflecting her dedication, hard work and perseverance.
In addition to her project work, Aurand has taken on numerous leadership roles. She has served as historian/reporter, vice president, and president of her 4-H club. These experiences have helped her develop strong communication, organization and teamwork skills.
Aurand has also made a meaningful impact through community service and outreach, volunteering her time at fairs, mentoring younger 4-H members and participating in community and youth activities. Her leadership and service have earned recognition from advisors and community members alike.
Following graduation, Aurand plans to attend the Pennsylvania College of Technology, where she will major in pre-radiography. She intends to pursue a career in radiology, combining her desire to help others with the skills and discipline she developed through 4-H.
The Snyder County 4-H Foundation Educational Award recognizes individuals who exemplify excellence in academics, 4-H participation, leadership and community service.
