Jacksonville Road closure begins June 1

STATE COLLEGE — Jacksonville Road between the Interstate 80 eastbound and westbound ramps will close beginning Monday, June 1, as part of PennDOT’s ongoing High-Speed Interchange project between Interstates 80 and 99.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, the closure is needed for drainage work connected to the project, which is designed to create a direct connection between I-80 and I-99 and reduce congestion along Route 26.

During the closure, motorists traveling north on I-99 and wishing to access I-80 westbound will be directed onto I-80 eastbound before using Exit 163/Jacksonville-Howard to reconnect with I-80 westbound.

PennDOT also said traffic from Route 1005 (Forest Avenue) will not be permitted to access Route 26 during the work. Drivers will instead travel south toward Route 550.

Officials expect the closure to remain in place for approximately five days, weather permitting.

The larger High-Speed Interchange project includes construction of the interchange, 10 bridges, retaining walls, culverts, sign structures and roadway improvements. PennDOT said work on the project is expected to continue through 2030.

Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh is the contractor for the $259 million project, which is partially funded through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

PennDOT noted the interchange project is one of three phases aimed at improving traffic flow and supporting regional freight movement in the area.

Starting at $2.99/week.
