UGI warns customers of scam targeting service inquiries

UGI Utilities is warning customers about a rise in scams in which individuals are tricked into making fraudulent payments, including fees to start service.

The UGI Utilities, Inc. said some customers have lost hundreds of dollars after unknowingly contacting scammers posing as company representatives. Officials believe victims may be finding fake phone numbers through online ads or websites when searching for UGI contact information.

Once contacted, scammers allegedly impersonate UGI employees, obtain personal information, and request unnecessary payments.

UGI officials said customers should use only the company’s official phone number — 800-276-2722 — for all billing questions, service requests, or emergencies.

The company also recommends customers add password protection to their accounts to prevent unauthorized access.

“UGI makes sure our legitimate phone number is visible on our website and on social media. We want customers to be vigilant against these online scam ads and websites that contain phone numbers,” said Dan Adamo, vice president of customer relations.

Starting at $2.99/week.
