HARRISBURG -- A Whitehall man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 20 to 40 years, for the 2018 killing of an 18-year-old in Northampton County, Attorney General Dave Sunday announced.
Zahmire Welcome, 27, was convicted in October by a Northampton County jury of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping in the death of Tyrell Holmes.
Authorities said Holmes was stabbed and set on fire in April 2018 outside an apartment complex in Bethlehem.
Welcome was also ordered to pay restitution to the victim's family for funeral expenses.
"Today's life sentence marks the final step in holding all four defendants responsible for their cruel and callous actions," Sunday said. "Unfortunately, the Holmes family will have to live with their loss every day."
Three co-defendants have also been sentenced in the case. Alkiohn Dunkins, 27, of Easton, was found guilty of first-degree murder and related charges and sentenced to life in prison, plus 23 to 50 years. Yzire Jenkins-Rowe, 28, of Collegeville, pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, conspiracy and arson and was sentenced to 27½ to 60 years. Miles Harper, 27, of Allentown, pleaded guilty to aggravated arson and was sentenced to 5 to 20 years in prison.
Prosecutors said the four men were members of the "Money Rules Everything" gang.
The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorneys General Christopher Phillips and Katherine McDermott.
