MIDDLEBURG -- A juvenile faces manslaughter and other charges in Snyder County for a shooting incident that occurred July 28 in West Perry Township, which led to the death of another individual.
The unnamed juvenile is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a firearm by a minor, according to a release from Snyder County District Attorney Mike Piecuch.
Charges were filed after completion of a state police investigation that determined that the alleged offender caused the death by handling a firearm in a reckless or grossly negligent manner. No charges related to the incident are expected to be filed against any other individual, Piecuch said.
The case was filed in juvenile court.
Both the deceased and the alleged offender were juveniles at the time of the shooting. No further information will be released about the case or the alleged offender due to the confidentiality requirements of Pennsylvania's juvenile justice system.
In Pennsylvania, a person is guilty of criminal homicide if he or she intentionally, knowingly, recklessly or negligently causes the death of another human being. Criminal homicide has four classifications: murder, voluntary manslaughter, or involuntary manslaughter. A person is guilty of involuntary manslaughter when, as a direct result of doing an unlawful act in a reckless or grossly negligent manner, or doing a lawful act in a reckless or grossly negligent manner, he or she causes the death of another person. The investigation discovered no evidence to support any homicide charge other than involuntary manslaughter.
