MIDDLEBURG -- Children had the opportunity to climb into the driver’s seats of emergency vehicles, explore heavy equipment and learn about Pennsylvania’s forests during SUMMIT Early Learning’s fourth annual Touch a Truck event Oct. 3 at Midd-West High School.

The free community event brought families together for a day of hands-on activities, entertainment and opportunities to learn about vehicles and equipment used by local businesses and organizations.

Children explored a variety of vehicles, including emergency vehicles, a crane and a tractor. The event allowed young visitors to see the equipment up close and learn how it operates.

Among the attractions was the WoodMobile, an interactive exhibit that introduced families to Pennsylvania’s forests and their history.

The Middlecreek Area Community YMCA provided barrel car rides, while children also had opportunities to drive antique pedal cars.

Capital Blue Cross donated materials that allowed children to decorate wooden vehicles to take home.

Live entertainment was provided by guitarist and singer Jamie Wagner, who performed children’s songs throughout the event. SUMMIT Early Learning’s mascot, Poppy the Kangaroo, also greeted families.

Now in its fourth year, Touch a Truck is designed to provide children with opportunities to learn through hands-on play while giving families a chance to spend time together.

The event also connects local businesses and community organizations with families in the region.

SUMMIT Early Learning offers the annual event free to the public as part of its efforts to encourage family engagement and community involvement.
