Snyder County to conduct cover crop survey

1 min read

MIDDLEBURG -- The Snyder County Conservation District will assist with a survey of agricultural conservation practices during the week of Nov. 16.

Survey crews will travel county roads in vehicles with flashing lights, stopping periodically to examine crop fields and document cover crop use, tillage practices and crop residue.

The survey, coordinated by Capital Resource Conservation and Development with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, is part of an ongoing effort to track agricultural conservation practices in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Crews will collect information about crop types, soil disturbance and remaining plant material. The data will help assess the use of farming practices that affect water quality.
