HUNTINGDON -- An inmate at the State Correctional Institution at Huntingdon died after he was found unresponsive in his cell Oct. 5, prison officials reported.
Geraldo J. Maldonado Jr., 43, was treated by prison staff and medical personnel before EMS transported him to Penn Highlands Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m.
Maldonado was serving a 24- to 52-year sentence following a Lancaster County conviction for rape of a child.
Pennsylvania State Police were notified and will investigate the death in accordance with state policy. The Huntingdon County Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death.
Maldonado's next of kin was notified.
