MOUNT UNION -- Police are investigating a motorcycle crash during Mount Union's annual Halloween parade after witnesses reported a rider speeding along the parade route and nearly striking pedestrians and participants.

Mount Union police said officers assisting with traffic control Thursday night were alerted at approximately 7:56 p.m. to a motorcycle weaving in and out of the parade route at a high rate of speed.

While officers were speaking with witnesses to obtain a description and direction of travel, Huntingdon County dispatch reported a motorcycle crash near East Market and South Greene streets, according to a public statement from Mount Union Police Department.

Officers responded and determined that the motorcycle and rider matched the descriptions witnesses had provided, the statement says.

Emergency responders assisted officers in providing first aid to the rider. The statement did not identify the rider or provide details about injuries.

The report says officers interviewed witnesses about the crash and the rider's actions beforehand. Officers continue to collect witness statements, camera footage and other information.

Anyone with footage or information related to the incident is asked to contact the Mount Union Police Department.

Police said they would provide an update when the investigation concludes and charges are filed.

The department also thanked firefighters, emergency medical personnel, the Huntingdon County Sheriff's Office, volunteers and bystanders who assisted.
