LEWISTOWN -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will host a public meeting Nov. 2 to present plans for a project that would remove two bridges and construct a roundabout at the intersection of South Juniata and East Charles streets in Lewistown.
The public plans display will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lewistown Borough Community Center, 108 Montgomery Ave.
The proposed South Juniata Street Intersection Reconfiguration project calls for removing two adjacent bridges carrying Route 3006 (South Juniata Street/Business Route 22) over the Route 3002 (East Charles Street) interchange.
Rather than replacing the bridges, PennDOT plans to construct a roundabout at ground level, eliminate the existing interchange ramps and connect East Charles Street directly to the roundabout.
The project also includes sidewalk improvements, new guide rails and additional intersection improvements.
Members of the project design team will be available during the meeting to answer questions and gather public feedback on the proposed improvements.
There will be no formal presentation, allowing residents to stop by at any time during the scheduled hours to review the plans and speak with project representatives.
PennDOT will also provide a virtual plans display for those unable to attend in person. Residents can review the project information online and submit comments through a digital public comment form.
The public comment period will run from Nov. 2 through Dec. 2.
The meeting location is accessible to people with disabilities. Those requiring special assistance may contact Kristen Rowe, KCI public involvement specialist, at (717) 906-5383 or Kristen.Rowe@kci.com.
Questions about the project may be directed to PennDOT project manager Grier Walker at (814) 768-0751.
