Elizabeth Yoder
The summer days are fleeting, and soon we’re in colder weather. We had heavy rains last week, close to 6 inches one night. Heard in the town of Jackson, they had even more. So, it was flooded. Some parts were out of electricity too. There were a lot of washouts in the driveways.
Over at Noah and Frannie Peight’s, their pasture fence and posts were washed out, and the posts broke off. They had gotten young Black Angus calves the day before the flood. A few got out but were caught again. Then on Saturday it rained some more. I think the produce season will be over sooner, too.
This is early wed morning. I woke up and put some wood in the stove, as it was a bit chilly in here.
Well, last week when I went to Elizabeth and Katie Swarey, “my cousins,” John Julia wasn’t at home. She was down at Jacob and Sarah Swarey’s to help with the B & W and Burdock dressing on Jacob’s big toe. They’re hoping it will heal nicely. He had a lot of pain the last couple of days. I have not heard what the doctor said when they went back for a checkup last Thursday. So anyway, the chow chow making was put off until a later date.
Our church was held at David and Nancy Yoder’s on Sunday, South District, at Albert and Sylvia Yoder's. David and Leah Peachey were not in church, as David had trouble with his heart rate. He had A-fib, where his heart beat went too fast.
Louie L. Peachey had trouble at the beginning of last week, as he was down in the 40s. He did get to a doctor. Not sure where or if David went, but he was very weak on Saturday and still not feeling well enough to go to church on Sunday.
Last eve, niece Gertie and I went to Ridge View Variety Store. I took my toys and beads along. Hettie asked me if I brought things along, so I was glad that I took them, as they don’t live in the neighborhood. They are buying a property along Glade Road. By the end of the year, they hope to move. Albert Yoders Sarah will buy the old store for her second-hand store. She already has things to sell over at Eli and Hettie Yoder’s warehouse.
Heard that Abram and Katie Peachey’s baby, Benjamin, seems like a colicky baby, as he has crying fits. Hopefully, he’ll outgrow it. Likely trying for first-time parents and the Kanagy grandparents too. Their address is 1733 Harrison Rd. Jackson, Ohio 45640. If others wish to express their care and experiences, please do so . Thanks!
Birthday wishes to my nephew Daniel J. Yoder tomorrow, the 18th, already 19 years old.
It’s time to move on and go to my cousin’s. Till next week.
