HARRISBURG -- A Huntingdon County dairy farm will receive $2.2 million in state funding for infrastructure improvements aimed at reducing agricultural runoff and protecting local waterways.

State Sen. Judy Ward, R-30, announced Thursday that the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) awarded the grant to Way-Lynn Farm in Springfield Township.

The funding will be used to remove an existing earthen manure lagoon and construct a new concrete manure storage facility, underground manure storage system and waste transfer pipeline.

"This funding is a win for our agricultural community," Ward said. "These improvements at Way-Lynn Farm will help a local family farm prevent nutrient run-off and protect Little Aughwick Creek. This investment will help our family farms continue to operate while also protecting our natural resources."

The project is designed to reduce the risk of manure and wastewater entering nearby waterways.

Once completed, the improvements are expected to prevent approximately 1,562 pounds of nitrogen, 41 pounds of phosphorus and 9,810 pounds of sediment from entering Little Aughwick Creek annually.
