LEWISTOWN -- Geisinger Lewistown Hospital has opened a newly renovated inpatient nursing unit featuring 16 private patient rooms as part of a broader effort to modernize the hospital and transition to private rooms.
The renovated 4B inpatient nursing unit represents a $6 million investment and is designed to provide patients with greater privacy, quieter surroundings and additional space for family involvement.
Hospital officials said the project is one phase of an ongoing modernization effort that is expected to increase the hospital’s total number of private patient rooms to 79 by winter 2027.
"We're so thankful to see this phase of our medical-surgical renovations come to completion," said Stacey Osborne, vice president and chief nursing officer at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. "With this project, we’ve now touched every floor in the hospital, creating spaces that better support both our patients and our care teams."
Osborne said additional projects remain planned at the hospital.
Private rooms can help reduce the potential for infection transmission between patients while providing additional privacy for conversations with health care providers, according to Geisinger. Hospital officials said the rooms also incorporate updated technology and features intended to improve patient comfort and care.
The hospital said the renovation is intended to improve conditions for both patients and staff while addressing the community’s changing health care needs.
"As we continue to modernize our facilities, every improvement is made with our patients, families and care teams in mind," Osborne said. "This investment helps us provide exceptional care close to home for generations to come."
Geisinger Lewistown Hospital also cited its designation as a U.S. News & World Report Best Hospital, five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and "Straight A" recognition from the Leapfrog Group among its recent quality recognitions.
