McALISTERVILLE -- Students from East Juniata High School’s AP Literature and Intro to Theatre classes traveled to the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire on Oct. 1 to explore connections between history, literature and the performing arts.

The students attended the Faire’s annual School Days event at Mount Hope Estate in Manheim, where the 35-acre grounds were transformed into a 16th-century English village.

During the visit, students interacted with costumed characters, observed historical trades and demonstrations, and attended live theatrical performances. Activities also included competitions and a jousting tournament.

East Juniata has participated in the event since 2011, when AP Literature and Composition was introduced into the district’s curriculum.

The trip gives literature students an opportunity to explore the historical setting of Shakespeare’s works, while theater students observe live performances, improvisation and audience interaction.

Students and teachers thanked the Juniata County School District and school board for supporting the annual educational trip.
