HARRISBURG -- Older Pennsylvanians and residents with disabilities have until Dec. 31 to apply for rebates of up to $1,000 on property taxes or rent paid in 2025.
The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue is reminding eligible residents that applications remain open for the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which provides financial assistance to qualifying homeowners and renters.
The program is available to residents age 65 and older, widows and widowers age 50 and older, and people with disabilities age 18 and older.
The application deadline was extended to Dec. 31, 2026.
According to the Department of Revenue, 491,343 rebates totaling $294.7 million have been processed so far this year for property taxes or rent paid in 2025.
The program was expanded in 2023 through legislation signed by Gov. Josh Shapiro. The changes increased income eligibility limits, raised the maximum standard rebate to $1,000 and established annual adjustments to income limits based on inflation.
Since 2023, the program has distributed more than $1.1 billion through approximately 1.9 million rebates across Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.
Rebate amounts are determined by an applicant’s annual income and the amount of property taxes or rent paid during the previous year.
For the 2025 claim year, the maximum standard rebates are:
-$1,000 for applicants with incomes of $8,550 or less.
-$770 for incomes between $8,551 and $16,040.
-$460 for incomes between $16,041 and $19,240.
-$380 for incomes between $19,241 and $48,110.
Eligible homeowners and renters must submit a new application each year because eligibility is based on annual income and housing expenses.
Revenue Secretary Pat Browne encouraged residents to check their eligibility and consider applying online through myPATH, the department’s electronic filing system.
"Applying online is user friendly and can help ensure you receive your rebate as quickly as possible," Browne said. "We’re seeing more Pennsylvanians who are eligible for the PTRR program use myPATH and benefit from a tool that guides you through the application process step-by-step."
Applications can be submitted online at pa.gov/ptrr, where residents can find eligibility requirements and access the myPATH filing system.
The online application is free, available in English and Spanish, and does not require users to create an account.
Residents who need assistance can visit Department of Revenue district offices, local Area Agencies on Aging or state legislators’ offices, where help with applications is available.
Applicants can also check the status of a submitted claim using the "Where’s My Rebate?" tool on myPATH. They will need their Social Security number, claim year and date of birth to access the information.
The deadline to apply for rebates covering 2025 property taxes or rent is Dec. 31.
