LEWISTOWN -- Emergency crews spent much of the night battling two separate building fires early Tuesday morning, including a four-alarm-equivalent blaze in Lewistown and a second-alarm fire in Belleville.
The first fire broke out on Montgomery Avenue in Lewistown, where a pickup truck reportedly caught fire inside a garage.
According to a Facebook post from City Hook & Ladder Fire Company No. 14, the blaze spread and eventually escalated to the equivalent of a fourth alarm, drawing assistance from multiple fire companies.
Photos shared on social media showed heavy smoke pouring from a brick building that appeared to sustain extensive damage.
Firefighters spent approximately seven hours at the scene.
While crews were still battling the Lewistown blaze, a second fire broke out in Belleville, prompting a second-alarm response.
According to the Thompsontown Volunteer Fire Company, its members were staged at City Hook & Ladder’s station when they were dispatched to the Belleville structure fire.
Photos posted by the department showed fire damage to the rear of a residence.
The two fires kept emergency responders busy throughout the night, with crews also handling an unrelated ambulance call.
“I wanna add that through all of this overnight action we had an ambulance call also in the Boro, and when it’s all said and done these crews will go home and get ready to head to their day jobs,” Milroy Hose Company No. 1 wrote in a post.
Information about injuries, the extent of the damage and the causes of the fires was not immediately available.
