CENTRE HALL -- A $1.4 million drainage improvement project in Centre Hall Borough is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 2, resulting in a temporary closure of East Locust Street, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
East Locust Street will be closed between Route 144 and Colyer Avenue while crews complete drainage improvements. Motorists will be directed to a detour using Cherry Alley and Witmer Avenue to reconnect with East Locust Street.
PennDOT expects to reopen the road by the end of November, weather permitting.
The work, originally scheduled to begin Oct. 19, was delayed.
The project is intended to prevent uncontrolled water runoff from damaging the roadway and extend the pavement’s lifespan. Work includes installing drainage inlets and pipes, paving and line painting.
Additional work is scheduled for the 2027 construction season, including drainage improvements along Route 144 and installation of new traffic loop sensors at the intersection of Routes 144 and 192.
Flaggers will direct traffic during daylight hours when that work takes place. PennDOT said it will provide an update before construction resumes next year.
Mitchell Knorr Contracting of Bloomsburg is the contractor for the project.
