Oct. 10, 2026, greetings to all and a happy birthday wished to Katie J. Swarey of Jackson, OH. Thought to write and send this today since there is no mail day on Monday the 12th, Columbus Day. How many years has it since he discovered America? If my memory serves me right, it was 1492. So it would be 534 years ago! Quite a long time ago and all the changes since then…oh my!
Callers this week were Sister Gertie and Jonathan. Gertie was here for the day on Tuesday, and we were served a lunch of yummy hoagies, ice cream, apple bars and snacks. An enjoyable day. Nanie was making vegetable soup that day, over 16 quarts. A good flavor added to it is chili powder and seasoning salt.
Bennie and Lizzie stopped in on Thursday evening on their way home from attending a wedding at David and Lomi Wengerd. Really was a nice week to prepare for a wedding and the wedding day.
On Friday morning, Jonas walked down from work to visit and see how we were doing. Then on Friday evening, Noah and Barbara Kanagy and Aunt Annie Peachey made a quick call here. They were doing visiting all day and made a lot of stops. An interesting day for them.
Reports are that Henry Summy had a stroke and is not doing well. He had been to the hospital with high blood pressure previously.
Henry and Hettie Peachey moved to their daughter Henry and Rachel Swarey on the 8th. A small new house. Henry and Hettie’s daughter Priscilla and son Henry moved into a cute little house there close to where they lived. Jacob and Linda Swarey want to live there. Jacob’s son Rudy and Esther Swarey want to move to where Jacob lived. They were doing some remodeling first.
A daughter, Mamie, was born to Jonathan and Rachel Peachey, joining a brother. Grandparents are Rufus and Leah Peachey, and Joseph and Rachel Peachey. Greats are Israel Dave, Aunt Lizzie and Kore and Fannie Peachey and Kore M. Yoder. Baby Mamie is in Hershey Hospital but is, as far as we know, doing well. Needs to do some growing. I hadn’t known until this week that Eli and Elsie Peachey moved off the farm into a smaller new house, on the farm!
Wonder what your address is now?
I made sauerkraut this summer and added some hot peppers, the Hungarian kind, to ferment with the cabbage, and it’s very good that way! For those who like peppers, they add good flavor. Kore Peachey Fannie has a birthday on the 18th, and then she turns 88. Address is 104 Woods Lane, Belleville, PA 17004.
Best wishes to all.
