LEWISTOWN -- Goose Day in the Juniata River Valley, and it's almost time to let the good times roll for the centuries-old celebration.
Kick off the fun with Lucky Friday in Downtown Lewistown from 5 to 10 p.m., featuring an incredible Drone Light Show at 9:30 p.m. on Friday. Then continue celebrating America's 250th anniversary and meet the one and only Goose Washington. Enjoy great food, live entertainment, family fun, and charming small towns. It's a tradition worth flocking to.
Here are some other highlights:
48th Annual Goose Day 5K is slated for Saturday. Registration opens at 7:45 a.m. and the race steps off at 9 a.m. This course is a fun, flat, and fast run and is an excellent course for a new PR or first time 5kers. The race starts and finishes at the Embassy Theatre on Monument Square in Downtown Lewistown.
Goose Day Rubber Duck River Race, hosted by the Dream Center Mifflin County, of Burnham, starts at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kish Park Creek. Just a $10 donation for a chance to win the $500 first prize. Proceeds benefit the Mifflin County Dream Center.
Fall festivals
Annual Fall Fest in Thompsontown, hosted by Thompsontown Volunteer Fire Co., 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Haldeman Park. Enjoy famous chicken and rib BBQ, fall activities, kids corner, live music, vendors and more. Plus, a 1976-time capsule will be opened and a new time capsule will be buried.
Fall Festival at Grace United Methodist, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Grace United Methodist Church, 101 Logan St., Lewistown. The event features a silent auction, rummage sale, food, entertainment, and meet and greet with Gracie the Goose.
Brookline Fall Festival, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Brookline Village, 92 Village Drive, Mifflintown. There will be food trucks, live music and games. Admission is free.
Benefit softball tournament
The Harper's Warriors Foundation 12th Annual Softball Benefit Tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Walker Park in Mifflintown, right off the Port Royal exit. Play for a purpose, fight for Hope. Along with the tournament there will be a Chinese auction, Rita's, face painting, concessions and more. Proceeds benefit child in need in the community.
All-you-can-eat chicken and waffles
Feast on all-you-can-eat chicken and waffles, Pennsylvania Dutch Style, on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Tuscarora Grange, 10575 Route 75 South, East Waterford. Meals include chicken, gravy, mashed potatoes, waffles, corn, apple sauce, dessert and drink. Dine-in or take-out available. Cost is $14 for adults and $7 for kids.
Car cruise-in
Locust Grove Retirement Village, 69 Cottage Road, Mifflin, will host a car cruise-in on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Classic cars, trucks, motorcycles, hot rods and race cars are welcome. There will also be food trucks, vendors, live music, raffles and fun for the whole family.
Beavertown Historical Society Museum open Sunday
The Beavertown Historical Society Museum will be open Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Beavertown Borough building at 111 W. Walnut St., Beavertown. The featured exhibit will be "Restaurants in Beavertown" through the years.
