McALISTERVILLE -- A 17-year-old Middleburg driver escaped injury after a vehicle struck a guide rail Sept. 7 in Juniata County.
Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown said the teen was driving a 2007 Ford Ranger on Route 235, about 2,123 feet north of Camp Lane, at about 2:34 p.m. when he fell asleep behind the wheel.
The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a guide rail before coming to an uncontrolled final rest, police said.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. He was cited for careless driving.
Fayette Township Fire Company and EMS assisted at the scene.
Tractor-trailer strikes disabled vehicle on Route 322
ARMAGH TOWNSHIP -- An Easton man was cited after a tractor-trailer struck an unoccupied disabled vehicle along Route 322 in Mifflin County, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown.
Police said Pedro R. Nunez, 61, was driving a 2026 Freightliner Cascadia west on Route 322 at about 4:51 a.m. Aug. 28 when he attempted to negotiate a left curve.
A 2020 Hyundai Tucson was parked unoccupied on the right shoulder after becoming disabled for an unknown reason, police said.
The tractor-trailer traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck the Hyundai at about the 2 o’clock position before continuing forward and striking a guide rail, according to the crash report.
Neither vehicle could be driven from the scene and both were towed. Nunez was not injured.
Police said Nunez was cited for multiple traffic violations, including driving on roadways laned for traffic.
Milroy Fire and EMS, Reedsville Fire and PennDOT assisted at the scene.
