Supervisors welcome Chief of Police Adam Shope

Former MCRPD chief John Chester recognized

LEWISTOWN The Derry Township Board of Supervisors welcomed Mifflin County Regional Police Department's Chief of Police Adam Shope Tuesday.

Shope was sworn in on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and supervisors expressed their gratitude to Mifflin County Regional Police Department's former Chief of Police John Chester who marks his retirement on Friday, Sept. 11.

In other news, supervisors approved the Kuharchik Construction's proposal to repair a traffic signal on Ort Valley Road in the amount of $39,285.

They also accepted a bid in the amount of $1,000 for the sale of a vacant lot located on Clover Avenue.

Supervisors accepted a recommendation to use Geisinger Health for the township's annual employee health insurance.

While discussing Geisinger insurance, the Supervisors decided to hold an agenda item related to a legal recommendation regarding a parking ordinance with Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. Supervisors agreed to table the discussion until local police have time to weigh in.

"We did receive legal recommendation from the attorneys that police should be weighing in on this," said Chairman Ronald Napikoski.

Napikoski said he spoke with the chief of police and the department added this discussion to the agenda for their next meeting.

Lastly, supervisors approved two park use applications for Kish Park, including the Dream Center Goose Day Rubber Duck Race on Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Mifflin County Middle School Science Class Field Trip on Oct. 28 and 29.

The Derry Township Board of Supervisors will meet next on Monday, Sept. 21.
