Road rally kicks off historic Goose Day festivities
48th annual event draws quite a flock of participants

LEWISTOWN -- With 48 years under its belt and Goose Day getting bigger and bigger with each passing year, it comes as no surprise that this year's Goose Road Rally had 118 participants who filled 31 vehicles on Sunday.
"The road rally brings the community together, and I was so happy to see many new faces and everyone who braved the rain to come out," said Mariah Stimely, who was the winner of last year's event and thus the organizer this year.
The Road Rally is a road scavenger hunt through Mifflin County where participants follow clues, explore new places, and discover where their Goose Day adventure takes them.
The rally kicked off Sunday morning at Sal lee's Dream, where participants picked up their clue packet and hit the road. The rally itself took six hours, ending with a celebration at the Barnyard Corn Maze, where first, second and third place winners were announced. Each received a prize, but the winner gets to organize next year's Goose Road Rally -- a continued tradition, according to last year's winner, Stimely.
"We got a lot of good feedback. One person said it was the best year yet; another came the whole way from Florida to participate," Stimely said.
This is just the first of many goose inspired events kicking off this week for the one-of-a-kind holiday right here in the Juniata River Valley.
