HUNTINGDON -- The Playhouse at McConnellstown is turning to music to help fund major repairs to its more than century-old home.
The Huntingdon County theater will host a Jukebox Cabaret from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, at Juniata Brewing Company, 1102 Susquehanna Ave., Huntingdon. Proceeds will benefit the Playhouse's multi-year "Raise the Roof" campaign.
The campaign aims to raise approximately $30,000 over the next several years for major building maintenance, including a full roof replacement, new gutters and downspouts and other facility work by licensed contractors.
Founded in 1982, the Playhouse operates from a 19th-century building along Route 26 in McConnellstown and has served as Huntingdon County's community theater for more than four decades.
"Without the support of our friends, patrons, and the community, Huntingdon's Little Theater would not have lasted 40 years," Playhouse Marketing Director Meghan Whitesel said. "Help us make it last another 40 more."
Friday's 21-and-older fundraiser will feature live music by husband-and-wife musical act Dan & Galla along with Playhouse vocalists. The performers will offer singalong favorites spanning several decades, with audience participation encouraged.
The evening will also include a 50/50 drawing and raffle packages featuring passes to DelGrosso's Amusement Park, Urban Air and Lincoln Caverns; restaurant gift certificates; a golf package; books by local author Charity Ellis; and a children's activity basket.
Juniata Brewing Company will have gourmet hot dogs, craft beer and specialty cocktails available for purchase.
Advance tickets are $10, with tickets available at the door for $15. Raffle and 50/50 purchases will be cash only, and organizers noted there is no ATM on site.
The Playhouse at McConnellstown provides theatrical productions and educational opportunities for performers and audiences throughout Huntingdon County.
