REEDSVILLE -- Philips plans to expand its ultrasound manufacturing operation in Reedsville, creating 101 jobs over the next three years while retaining 518 existing full-time positions, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
The health technology company will invest $1.6 million in the expansion of its facility at 1 Echo Drive, according to an announcement Tuesday. The state will provide $330,000 toward the project through a Pennsylvania First grant.
Philips plans to add another production line at the Reedsville facility to increase its capacity to manufacture ultrasound transducers. The project marks the company’s fifth expansion at the Mifflin County site in the past decade.
Philips purchased the Reedsville facility in 1998 and previously expanded the operation in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2025.
"Reedsville is an important part of Philips' U.S. operations, and this latest investment reflects our long-standing commitment to manufacturing and innovation in the United States," said Jeff DiLullo, chief region leader for Philips North America.
DiLullo said the project builds on an investment in the Reedsville operation announced last year and is part of the company’s more than $150 million U.S. investment plan.
Philips is a global health technology company employing more than 16,000 people in the United States, including workers at several facilities in Pennsylvania.
Nick Felice, president and CEO of the Mifflin County Industrial Development Corporation, said the latest expansion demonstrates the company’s continued confidence in the local workforce.
"Last year's $150 million investment plus this new commitment shows Philips' belief in Mifflin County's workforce and its productivity," Felice said. "Residents appreciate the competitive wages and benefits, as well as the excellent working conditions Philips offers. We appreciate their continued investment here and look forward to their continued positive impact on our local and regional economy."
Lauren Bryson, executive director of Focus Central Pennsylvania, also welcomed the expansion, saying continued investment by a global company strengthens the region’s manufacturing sector and creates additional employment opportunities.
DCED Secretary Rick Siger announced the project while visiting Philips’ Innovation Center in Eindhoven, Netherlands. The trip is part of a state economic development mission to the Netherlands, Austria and Germany.
