LEWISTOWN -- Motorists in Mifflin and Juniata counties could encounter lane restrictions and flaggers this week as Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews conduct bridge work, crack sealing, patching and other maintenance.
In Mifflin County, work includes several projects along Route 322, as well as maintenance on routes 103 and 22.
Crews are scheduled to perform bridge maintenance and cleaning on Route 322 at the bridge spanning Route 4001, Woodland Road, in Brown Township today and Tuesday. The work will take place off the roadway and is expected to have little, if any, impact on traffic.
Joint and crack sealing and hot-pour mastic work is scheduled on Route 103 between the Huntingdon-Mifflin County line in Wayne Township and Mattawanna Road in Bratton Township from today through Thursday.
Similar work is scheduled Friday on Route 22 between the Huntingdon-Mifflin County line in Wayne Township and Dogwood Drive in Oliver Township.
Flaggers will provide traffic control during daylight hours at both locations and may use pilot vehicles. Motorists encountering a vehicle displaying a "Pilot Car Follow Me" sign and revolving yellow light should remain behind it until the vehicle leaves the roadway and should not attempt to pass.
PennDOT also plans shoulder maintenance Wednesday on Route 322 at the Milroy Exit in Brown Township. That work will take place off the roadway and is expected to have little impact on traffic.
Side dozing is scheduled throughout the week on Route 322 between the Centre-Mifflin County line in Armagh Township and a pair of bridges spanning Kishacoquillas Creek in Brown Township. Single-lane closures will be in place while that work is completed.
In Juniata County, crews will perform bridge maintenance and cleaning throughout the week on Route 2007, Free Spring Church Road, at the bridge spanning Doe Run about a half-mile north of Van Wert in Walker Township. The work will take place on or beyond the shoulder and is expected to have minimal traffic impact.
Crack sealing and hot-pour mastic work is scheduled today and Tuesday on Route 3017, Academia Road, in Beale Township; Wednesday and Thursday on Route 3030, Spruce Hill Road; and Thursday and Friday on Route 3010, Lions Club Park Road, in Milford Township.
Flaggers will provide traffic control during daylight hours and may use pilot vehicles.
Crews also will perform patching throughout the week on Route 3021, McKinley Road, between Route 35 and Route 3014, McCoysville Road, in Tuscarora Township. Flaggers will provide traffic control during daylight hours, and a pilot vehicle may be used.
PennDOT said crack sealing and hot-pour mastic help prevent water from entering pavement and contributing to potholes and pavement deterioration. Shoulder and side-dozing operations are intended to improve drainage and prevent water from collecting on roadways.
The maintenance schedules are subject to change because of weather, emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances.
