MIFFLINTOWN -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced several maintenance projects scheduled for Juniata County during the week of Sept. 21, including bridge maintenance, crack sealing and pipe work.
Bridge maintenance and cleaning is scheduled Monday on Route 75 at a bridge spanning a tributary of Tuscarora Creek in Spruce Hill Township. Work will take place off the roadway and is expected to have little, if any, impact on traffic.
Crews will also work on the Route 2015, or Swailes Road, bridge over a tributary of Cocolamus Creek in Fayette Township from Tuesday through Friday. That work also is expected to have little impact on traffic.
On Friday, PennDOT crews are scheduled to perform joint and crack sealing and hot pour mastic work along Route 3010, Lions Club Park Road, in Milford Township. Flaggers will provide traffic control during daylight hours and may use a pilot vehicle to guide motorists through the work area.
PennDOT said the work is intended to prevent water from entering cracks and joints in the pavement, which can contribute to potholes and pavement deterioration.
Pipe replacement and cleaning also is planned at several locations during the week.
Crews will work on Route 3008, Groninger Valley Road, between Route 35 and Route 3030, Spruce Hill Road, in Beale Township from Monday through Friday. Work also is scheduled along Route 3017, Academia Road, in Beale Township on Monday and Tuesday.
Pipe work will move to Route 3030, Spruce Hill Road, on Wednesday and Thursday. Flaggers will provide traffic control during daylight hours at the pipe work locations, and pilot vehicles may be used.
PennDOT reminds drivers who encounter a pilot vehicle displaying a "Pilot Car Follow Me" sign to remain behind the vehicle until it leaves the roadway and not attempt to pass.
The maintenance schedule is subject to change because of weather, emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances.
