LEWISTOWN -- Gov. Josh Shapiro has proclaimed October 2026 as Local Chamber of Commerce Month in Pennsylvania, recognizing the role chambers play in supporting businesses and local economies.
The Juniata River Valley Chamber of Commerce, which serves businesses and organizations in Mifflin and Juniata counties, is joining chambers across the state in marking the observance.
"Local chambers of commerce play a critical role in supporting the needs of our vibrant business community and are essential to the Commonwealth's continued economic growth and success," Shapiro said in the proclamation.
The governor also noted that chambers represent thousands of businesses across Pennsylvania and provide assistance to new and established companies.
Rhonda Kelley, executive director of the Juniata River Valley Chamber, said chambers do more than organize ribbon cuttings and business events.
"Every day, chambers have the opportunity to connect businesses with one another, provide resources and education, advocate for a strong business climate, promote our communities and help create opportunities for people to succeed," Kelley said.
The Juniata River Valley Chamber offers networking and educational programs, leadership development, community events and promotional opportunities. It also works with businesses, nonprofit organizations and local officials on economic and community initiatives.
The chamber is encouraging residents to support local businesses and participate in community events during October.
