LOCK HAVEN -- Music, poetry, spoken word and stand-up comedy will be featured during the 2027 Lock Haven Fringe, scheduled for Oct. 16 and 17 at several venues throughout the city.
Absolutely! Theatre and Fundraising Inc., which organizes the event, announced the lineup this week. All performances are free and open to the public, although some participating venues offer dining and cash bars.
The Fringe will open Friday, Oct. 16, with Chris Hull performing from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Broken Axe Brew House, 1 E. Bald Eagle St. Hull, a singer, producer, guitarist and writer from Southampton, performs Americana music incorporating elements of power pop, new wave, rock, reggae and blues.
Steve Marchion will follow with a performance from 9 to 10:30 p.m. at Hangar 9 Restaurant and Lounge, 208 Bellefonte Ave. Marchion, a rock ukulele musician and singer, is a 2000 graduate of Lock Haven University and performs regularly at coffeehouses in the Philadelphia area.
Events continue Saturday, Oct. 17, when poet and spoken-word performer Amira Jenna appears from 2 to 4 p.m. at Avenue 209 Coffee House on Bellefonte Avenue.
Jenna’s work is influenced by her experiences growing up in North Carolina and Philadelphia and addresses subjects including love, loss, personal growth, mental health stigma, racism, sexism and equality.
The Fringe will conclude Saturday with a stand-up comedy show beginning at 8 p.m. in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Trackside Room, 433 E. Clinton St.
Harrisburg-based comedian Lennon Free will open the show. Joe Ohrin, who has more than 20 years of experience performing stand-up comedy, will headline. Ohrin has performed at venues including Dangerfield’s, The Comic Strip and Stand Up NY and has opened for performers including Chris Rock, Jeff Dunham and "Weird Al" Yankovic. He also previously wrote for "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
Organizers said Ohrin’s performance is intended for mature audiences.
Brady Carnahan, founder of Absolutely! Theatre and Fundraising, said the local event is based on the broader Fringe movement, which provides venues for different forms of performing art.
"This year offers a strong line-up for all tastes including rock, blues, ukulele, guitar, poetry, spoken word and comedy," Carnahan said.
Admission to all Lock Haven Fringe performances is free. Organizers said reservations may be advisable for attendees who plan to dine at participating venues.
