JCHS fall banquet to be held Oct. 14
MEXICO -- The Juniata County Historical Society fall banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Walker Grange, Mexico. Tickets ($25 each) will be available Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Juniata County Historical Society Archives, 498 Jefferson St., Suite B, Mifflintown, Pa., 17059 (lower level of county library), or send a self addressed, stamped envelope with a check for ticket(s) to be mailed to you. Ticket sale deadline is Oct. 6. A roast beef dinner will be served and there will be 50/50 drawing.
Guest speaker will be William Peck Jr., a lay historian of the Pennsylvania Soldiers' Orphan Schools program. Peck has been associated with Scotland School for Veterans Children his entire life. He is a 1981 West Point graduate and is currently a data analyst at the U.S. Naval Academy. He grew up in Chambersburg and currently lives in Bel Air, Maryland. He will speak on this program, which spanned three centuries, 1864-2009, with a focus on Cumberland County and other central Pennsylvania Soldiers' Orphan Schools, including the orphan school in McAlisterville.
Navigating dementia and abuse prevention presentation in Middleburg
MIDDLEBURG -- Lynn Fiedler, M.Ed., and Kim Rigel, RN, Gerontology BC, will present Navigating the Challenging World of Dementia and Abuse Prevention at Shade Mountain Winery, 16140 Rte.104, Middleburg on Sunday, Oct. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m.
The presentation will be followed by a Q and A session, light refreshments, door prizes and valuable bridge building. Seating is limited.
