Fiore resigns as Granville Township supervisor

Township seeking applicants to fill vacancy on board

LEWISTOWN -- Granville Township Supervisor Joseph Fiore has resigned from the board, citing personal reasons and a desire to spend more time with his family.

Fiore's resignation was effective Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The departure comes amid months of heated public discussion over a proposed data center in the township. Meetings related to the proposal have drawn hundreds of residents, many of whom have spoken in opposition to the development.

Township solicitor Fred Lighty said the board of supervisors must accept a tendered resignation within 45 days unless the resignation is withdrawn in writing before it is accepted.

Once the resignation is accepted, supervisors have 30 days to appoint a replacement. If the board is unable to agree on a replacement within that period, the township's vacancy board has an additional 15 days to fill the seat.

Those interested in filling the position may submit a letter of interest and resume to the township.

The vacancy is expected to be among the matters discussed when supervisors meet Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Township supervisors are responsible for the general governance of the municipality and exercise legislative, executive and administrative powers. Their duties include overseeing township finances, maintaining township-owned equipment and facilities, employing and supervising township personnel and providing for preparation of the annual tax duplicate.

Supervisors also are responsible for providing information needed for the township's annual report and carrying out other duties and powers established by state law.
