LEWISTOWN -- The Granville Township Board of Supervisors announced the appointment of Supervisor Earl "Pete" Weaver Jr. at a special meeting Monday evening.
The board of supervisors published on granvilletwp.org that the Court of Common Pleas appointed and swore in Weaver to serve as a supervisor until the next municipal election.
According to Solicitor Fred Lighty, the Court of Common Pleas appointed Weaver at a Hearing held on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
"We needed the court because two of three (board seats) were vacant and the sole remaining supervisor didn't constitute a quorum. In that case the law says it goes to the Court of Common Pleas," said Lighty.
Weaver previously worked for the township in the sewer and water department from September 1991 to January 2023, and served as a Granville Township supervisor from 2000 to 2006.
Weaver has volunteered with the Junction Fire Co. since 1986 and is currently the Granville Township firemen's relief treasurer, a position he began in 1994.
Pennsylvania Rural Water Association currently employs Weaver as a water and wastewater technician, funding specialist, and training instructor, and Weaver is an active member of Lewistown Alliance Church.
According to granvilletwp.org, the second board vacancy was referred back to the two seated supervisors.
Candidates must be Granville Township residents for at least one year and submit a letter of interest and a resume by Wednesday, Sept. 30.
