STATE COLLEGE -- Drone flights will be restricted around Beaver Stadium during Saturday's Penn State football game against Buffalo as Pennsylvania State Police plan enhanced aviation security measures.
A temporary flight restriction will cover a 3-nautical-mile radius around Beaver Stadium and extend up to 3,000 feet above ground level, according to state police. The restriction takes effect at 11 a.m. Saturday and will remain in place until one hour after the game ends.
Penn State is scheduled to host Buffalo at noon Saturday at Beaver Stadium.
Under the restriction, unauthorized unmanned aircraft systems, commonly known as drones, are prohibited from operating within the restricted airspace. Drone flights must be specifically authorized or otherwise permitted by the Federal Aviation Administration and comply with applicable federal regulations and Notices to Airmen.
State police said they will also conduct counter-drone operations in coordination with federal, state and local public safety agencies.
Any unauthorized drone detected within the restricted airspace will prompt an immediate law enforcement response, according to state police.
Officials are reminding drone operators to check current FAA airspace restrictions before flying. Unauthorized operations could result in enforcement under federal or state law, including possible criminal prosecution and civil penalties.
Anyone who sees a suspicious or unauthorized drone operating near Beaver Stadium should immediately report it to law enforcement.
