PORT MATILDA -- The Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund will host its "Night at the Races" fundraiser Oct. 3 at Good Shepherd Parish Hall in Port Matilda, with proceeds benefiting area cancer patients.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with racing beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature recorded horse races called by a live professional announcer, with guests able to place wagers on the races.

Tickets are $50 per person and include a buffet-style dinner and drinks. Tables may be reserved for groups of six, eight or 10.

Participants may also purchase and name a racehorse for $25. Owners of winning horses will receive a $50 share. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

Tickets may be purchased at givebutter.com/BPFNATR26 or by calling (814) 231-2692.

The fundraiser comes as the Bob Perks Cancer Assistance Fund marks its 20th anniversary. Since its founding, the organization has raised more than $3.5 million to help local cancer patients pay essential living expenses.

Assistance can help patients cover basic needs, including housing and utilities, while they undergo treatment and recovery.

The fund was established in 2006 in memory of State College native Bob Perks, who died in 2005 following a battle with melanoma.

The organization provides financial assistance to cancer patients in Bedford, Blair, Centre, Clearfield, Huntingdon, Juniata and Mifflin counties.
