HERSHEY -- Four Diamonds and Penn State THON will receive permanent recognition at Beaver Stadium through a gift from an anonymous donor to Penn State Athletics' $700 million stadium revitalization project.
Banner signage featuring the names and logos of Four Diamonds and THON will be installed at Gate B at Beaver Stadium. The donor relinquished naming rights associated with the gift in order to recognize the two organizations and their work in the fight against childhood cancer.
The signage is expected to be installed this week, ahead of Penn State's game against Wisconsin on Saturday.
The recognition comes as Four Diamonds and THON celebrate 50 years of partnership. Since 1977, THON has raised more than $273 million for Four Diamonds, helping more than 5,500 eligible children and their families with the financial burdens associated with childhood cancer care at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital.
"We are thrilled to be recognized as a permanent fixture at Beaver Stadium," said Suzanne Graney, executive director of Four Diamonds. "We are so grateful to Penn State Athletics for being a Partner in the Fight to conquer childhood cancer. We are likewise thankful to this anonymous donor for their generosity and creativity in helping us to raise awareness about childhood cancer with our Nittany Lion fans."
The gift supports the Beaver Stadium Revitalization Project, a multiyear, $700 million capital improvement project being undertaken by Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics.
Four Diamonds is a nonprofit gift fund that provides financial support, comprehensive care and funding for research for children with cancer and their families.
THON, billed as the world's largest student-run philanthropy, includes more than 16,500 student volunteers who work throughout the year to provide emotional and financial support, raise awareness and fund research through Four Diamonds for patients at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital.
"Penn State Athletics and THON represent two of the strongest communities within the Penn State family, bringing people together through shared experience, traditions and a commitment to something bigger than themselves," said Lauren Mellas, THON 2027 executive director.
Mellas said the two communities have a lasting impact on students, alumni and fans and that THON hopes to continue expanding its partnership with Penn State Athletics.
"We are excited to continue building our partnership with Athletics and to see the impact we can make together, For the Kids," she said.
