Identity of man found in river remains unknown
Autopsy scheduled Saturday; police expect more information

GRANVILLE -- Granville Township Police had no update as of press time on the identity of a man whose body was recovered Thursday from the Juniata River near the former Red's Diner.
Police Chief Chad Brehman said the middle-aged man was found along the riverbank just east of Tate's Campground on the Granville Township side of the river.
A fisherman discovered the body at approximately 9:01 a.m. Thursday.
Police believe the man may have been a Mifflin County resident based on items recovered at the scene. Authorities have not identified those items.
The Mifflin County Coroner's Office previously said the man was believed to be in his late 40s to early 60s and approximately 6 feet tall.
At the time he was found, the man was wearing a blue shirt and dark blue to black shorts bearing the words "Huskies Football," along with blue-and-red Reebok sneakers, two black braided cloth bracelets and a cross necklace.
The coroner's office also reported several identifying marks, including a scorpion tattoo on his left shoulder, a tattoo appearing to depict a devil's face on his right shoulder and another unidentified tattoo on his right upper arm. He also had a surgical scar on the back of his neck with what appeared to be a sun tattoo over the scar.
An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday. Brehman said police expect to release additional information after receiving the results.
The investigation remains ongoing.
