Property owners to receive revised final value notices

Juniata County Commissioners approve agenda items

MIFFLINTOWN -- Some Juniata County property owners are receiving revised reassessment notices after an error was discovered in calculations affecting certain parcels.

Sarah Jordan, staff appraiser with Vision Government Solutions, told the Juniata County Commissioners on Tuesday that the recalculation error was discovered while property values were being reviewed as part of the countywide reassessment.

The revised notices reflect the corrected final assessed value and provide property owners with an updated estimate of the tax impact based on that value.

Jordan encouraged property owners who receive a revised notice to review the information carefully. Those property owners may file an appeal in accordance with the instructions and deadlines included with the notice.

Jordan said assessors appreciate property owners' understanding as they work to ensure property values throughout the county are calculated fairly, accurately and uniformly.

When asked whether the reassessment process has generated questions from property owners, Juniata County Director of Assessment and GIS Mike Hower said he has not received any questions regarding the reassessment.

Commissioners also approved and signed a contract with conditions for funding, participation and assurance compliance for the Medical Assistance Transportation Program, as presented by Melissa Stewart, director of Mifflin-Juniata Human Services.

Stewart explained that this is an annual contract that human services receives from the state to provide Call-A-Ride Service, a shared-ride transportation service available to residents of Mifflin and Juniata counties.

This service is available locally and for out-of-county medical appointments.

Stewart announced that the human services office received Election Integrity Grant Program funding that they apply for every year.

This year, human services sought and received $70,844.17.

"This goes towards anything involving running the election, such as printing ballots, training, staffing, procedures, etc.," added Stewart.

In other news, commissioners:

•Approved the professional services agreement between Juniata County 911 and Mission Critical Partners to provide 911 emergency communications professional consulting services;

•Approved the software support agreement for OSS for the LANDEX system from Sept. 1, 2026 to Aug. 31, 2027;

•Approved the use of the County Records Improvement Fund to purchase a Brother MFC-L3780CDW -- Multifunction printer at a total cost of $558.59 for the tax claim office;

•Ratified the CDBG-IDIS check in the amount of $133,532.34 to SEDA-COG, submitted by the Juniata County Planning and Community Development Department;

•Ratified the payment of the Juniata County hazardous material check in the amount of $69.79;

•Approved the resignation of Nickolas Aumiller, children and youth caseworker, effective as of the end of business on Sept. 11;

•Approved the July 2026 departmental reports for the Juniata County Probation Office and the Juniata County Children and Youth Office;

•Approved the tax exonerations for Susquehanna, Milford Township, and Mifflin Borough;

•Approved hiring Jessica Meckley as a Juniata County Children and Youth Services caseworker effective Aug. 31, as recommended by Ashley Baxter, children and youth director. Meckley replaces Bailey Haubrick, who resigned as caseworker effective at the end of business on May 8. Salary and benefits will be in accordance with the current bargaining unit contract.

The Juniata County Commissioners will meet next at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
