Dirt bike driver jailed, charged with fleeing

LEWISTOWN -- Lewistown Police Department officers on patrol along South Main Street in Lewistown at 11:44 p.m. Aug. 6 tried stopping a black electric dirt bike carrying two people, according to a release issued on Thursday. The bike had no pedals, wasn't registered and the driver lacked eye protection. After making eye contact with an officer, the driver fled north, attempted to cut through a parking lot and travel up a set of stairs toward Mill Street, then got stuck. Police identified the driver as Alijah J. Pawally, 21, of Granville Township. He was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police and multiple summary offenses. The dirt bike was towed and impounded.

Area man cited for defiant trespassing on Shaw Avenue

LEWISTOWN -- Darrell A. Hill, 37, of address unknown, was cited for defiant trespassing by Lewistown Police Department officers at 2:01 p.m. on Aug. 7 after finding Hill at a residence on the 100 block of Shaw Avenue in Lewistown, according to a release issued on Thursday. Officers confirmed Hill had previously been served a no-trespass notice and reviewed video showing him knocking on the resident's door.

Lewistown man arrested for active bench warrant

LEWISTOWN -- A Lewistown Police Department Narcotics Investigator observed Tyler R. Kenepp, 37, of Lewistown, walking in the area of Valley Street and South Pine Street in Lewistown and knew Kenepp had an active bench warrant for failure to pay issued from the prothonotary's office, according to a release issued on Thursday. Kenepp was taken into custody and, during a search incident to arrest, officers located crack cocaine, depressant medications and crack pipes in his possession. Kenepp was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown on the warrant and charges were filed for possession of controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sisters involved in disturbance; juvenile cited for underage drinking LEWISTOWN -- At 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 10, Lewistown Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of West Third Street in Lewistown for a disturbance, according to a release issued on Thursday. Police found that a 20-year-old woman struck her 18-year-old sister during an altercation. Officers also learned a 16-year-old girl had been consuming alcohol. The juvenile's BAC was above the legal driving limit and she possessed Four Loko cans. She was cited for underage drinking and released to a parent. The 20-year-old was cited for harassment.

Juveniles flee police on e-bikes; alleged charges pending

LEWISTOWN -- A Lewistown Police Department officer saw a juvenile on an e-bike dart across Valley Street into traffic at 10:31 a.m. on Aug. 11, according to a release issued on Thursday. Police located four or five juveniles, ages 11 to 12, on Oak Street. When officers attempted a stop, the juveniles fled, running a stop sign and speeding through the Tollgate Apartments lot before riding in front of a tractor-trailer and going the wrong way on Locust Street. One juvenile was found hiding behind a shed on Shaw Avenue but fled again until his e-bike malfunctioned. Officers later identified all juveniles and notified their parents. The juveniles admitted knowingly evading police and will be charged with fleeing or attempting to elude police and summary traffic offenses. Parents might face charges for permitting violations involving pedalcycles.

Police investigate alleged injury to child

LEWISTOWN -- At 5:23 p.m. on Aug. 11, a father reported receiving a photo showing a contusion on his 10-year-old child's face while they was in their mother's custody on Central Avenue in Lewistown, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Thursday. Officers initially found no one home but later made contact with the mother and child. Police confirmed the injury. The mother said she attempted to smack the child's buttocks for acting out but accidentally struck their face when the child moved. The case remains under investigation for possible simple assault.

Resident scammed out of $1,350 in rental fraud LEWISTOWN -- At LEWISTOWN -- A unidentified Lewistown reported losing $1,350 after responding to a Facebook ad for an apartment at 10:53 p.m. on Aug. 11, according to a Lewistown Police Department release issued on Thursday. The victim provided Apple gift cards as a security deposit. The person posing as the landlord stopped responding.

Driver flees crash; later located and charged

LEWISTOWN -- Lewistown Police Department officers allege Zachary C. Knepp, 36, of Derry Township, turned into the path of another vehicle, then drove off and abandoned the disabled car on Bridge Street in Lewistown at 2:38 p.m. on Aug. 12, according to a release issued on Thursday. Officers responded to East Walnut and Spring streets for a crash in which the at-fault driver fled, the report said. A witness said Knepp refused to identify himself and fled through a carport. Officers found a pay stub in the vehicle and later learned Knepp had contacted the registered owner admitting he crashed. Knepp was located by Mifflin County Regional Police in Burnham. He admitted driving with a DUI-suspended license and said he fled because he was scared. Knepp is charged with accidents involving attended vehicles, driving while DUI-suspended and summary traffic offenses.
