PennDOT begins road and bridge work across valley
Motorists should expect lane restrictions, detours

LEWISTOWN -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced its maintenance schedule for Mifflin and Juniata counties for the week of Aug. 3, with motorists advised to expect lane restrictions, flagging operations and a bridge detour at various locations.
In Mifflin County, bridge maintenance is planned at three locations along major highways. Crews will work Monday and Tuesday on Route 322 at the bridge spanning Woodland Road (Route 4001) and Tea Creek near Reedsville in Brown Township. Additional work is scheduled Wednesday and Thursday on the Route 322 bridge over Route 655 in Brown Township, followed by maintenance Thursday and Friday on the Route 22 bridge over the Lewistown Bypass in Granville Township. Single-lane closures will be in place during each project.
Pipe replacement and cleaning is scheduled Monday and Tuesday on Route 103 between Ten Acre Lane and John Street (Route 3014) in Bratton Township. Similar work will continue Wednesday through Friday on Route 333 between Risky Road and Hawsbrick Street in Granville Township. Flaggers will direct traffic during daylight hours, and pilot vehicles may be used.
PennDOT also plans side dozing operations along Route 322 between the Reedsville-Belleville interchange in Brown Township throughout the week. The work will require single-lane closures.
In Juniata County, bridge maintenance is scheduled Friday on Route 2010 (Black Dog Road) at the bridge over a tributary of Cocolamus Creek in Delaware Township. A detour will be in place using Ehrenzeller Road (Route 2015), Leister Valley Road (Route 2012) and Evendale Hill Road (Route 2017).
Pipe replacement and cleaning will take place Monday through Friday on Route 35, beginning at McKinley Road in Tuscarora Township and extending about 2.25 miles north. Flaggers and, if needed, a pilot vehicle will guide traffic through the work zone.
Shoulder maintenance is also planned in Juniata County, with work scheduled Monday through Wednesday on Route 333 between Butcher Shop Road in Turbett Township and Colyer Street in Thompsontown Borough. Additional shoulder work is planned Thursday on Tuscarora Road (Route 3004) and Friday on Stouffer Road (Route 3007), both in Turbett Township.
PennDOT said the maintenance projects are intended to preserve bridges, improve roadway drainage and extend pavement life. Motorists are reminded to obey flaggers and remain behind pilot vehicles displaying a "Pilot Car Follow Me" sign.
The schedule is weather dependent and subject to change because of emergencies or other unforeseen circumstances. Drivers can check traffic conditions through the 511PA traveler information system or report roadway concerns by calling 1-800-FIX-ROAD.
