Lewistown man charged with sexual assault involving 13-year-old

LEWISTOWN -- An 18-year-old man is being held in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail after police charged him with two felony sexual offenses involving a 13-year-old girl.
Achillies Hockenberry, of Lewistown, is charged with felony counts of statutory sexual assault involving a complainant four to eight years younger and sexual assault, according to court records. The charges were filed Monday by Lewistown Police Department.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, the girl’s father contacted Lewistown police on Aug. 13 to report an alleged sexual assault involving Hockenberry. Police said the father told them the alleged incident had occurred approximately four months earlier at an apartment at 20 S. Main St. in Lewistown.
Woods wrote in the affidavit that she interviewed Hockenberry on Aug. 21 after he came to the Lewistown Police Department. According to the affidavit, Hockenberry said he knew the girl through a group he referred to as his “street family” and acknowledged spending time with her at the South Main Street apartment.
Police allege Hockenberry initially denied having sexual contact with the girl before later admitting during the interview that he had sexual intercourse with her on one occasion.
According to the affidavit, Hockenberry told police he believed the girl was 14. Police said she was 13 at the time of the alleged incident.
The girl and her father also provided police with a written statement Aug. 21, according to the affidavit. Police said the girl reported having sexual intercourse with Hockenberry in April at the South Main Street apartment.
The criminal complaint alleges Hockenberry, who was 18, had sexual intercourse with the 13-year-old girl. Police charged him under Pennsylvania statutes covering statutory sexual assault when the defendant is four to eight years older than a complainant younger than 16, as well as sexual assault without the complainant’s consent.
Both charges are graded as second-degree felonies, according to the court docket.
Hockenberry was arraigned Monday before Magisterial District Judge Craig A. Weston. Bail was set at $100,000 monetary, and court records indicate he was committed to the Mifflin County Correctional Facility after being unable to post bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 2 before Weston.
