UGI reminds public to call 811 before digging

HARRISBURG - UGI Utilities is reminding homeowners and contractors to call 811 before beginning digging projects.

Requests should be made at least three business days before digging so underground gas, water, sewer, electric and communications lines can be marked.

"It is a simple call or click, and it is the law," said Janet Toporcer, UGI's public safety administrator. "Calling 811 can prevent costly damage, loss of service, injury, even death."

Homeowners doing their own work are responsible for contacting 811, while contractors must make the request when hired for a project. UGI also reminds residents to watch for overhead electrical lines while working.

More information is available through UGI's 811 safety information and Call 811.
