Geisinger receives ‘best hospitals’ recognition

LEWISTOWN -- Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital has been recognized as a high-performing hospital in three procedures and conditions in the 2026-27 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals rankings.
The hospital earned high-performing ratings for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure and pneumonia.
"Being recognized for our performance speaks to the dedication of our physicians, nurses and care teams," said Sabrina Sumner, D.O., chief medical officer at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital.
"All of our employees here at Geisinger Lewistown Hospital put the utmost effort into delivering high-quality medical care to our patients," Sumner said. "It's our goal, each and every day, to provide our community with the best possible experience."
Three other Geisinger hospitals also received recognition in the annual rankings.
Geisinger Medical Center tied for the No. 11 spot among Pennsylvania hospitals, while Geisinger Wyoming Valley tied for No. 18 in the state and ranked No. 1 in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton region. Geisinger Community Medical Center also received high-performing ratings in multiple procedures and conditions.
U.S. News & World Report evaluates hospitals based on factors including patient outcomes, patient experience, staffing levels and other quality measures. Procedure and condition ratings are based on objective performance metrics.
