MOUNT UNION -- Lions from across District 14-L gathered Saturday for the district's annual Banner Ceremony, combining a longstanding Lions tradition with fellowship and a service project benefiting area children.
District 14-L encompasses Bedford, Blair, Fulton, Huntingdon and Mifflin counties.
The Banner Ceremony symbolizes the passing of leadership from one club to another. This year, the banner was passed from the Bedford Lions Club, home club of Immediate Past District Governor David Flurie, to the Allenport Lions Club, home club of District Governor Hunter McVey.
McVey began his term as district governor for the 2026-27 Lions year on July 1.
Activities began at the Pennsylvania Lions Beacon Lodge Camp in Mount Union, where Lions and their guests had an opportunity to use the camp's zip line before gathering for a picnic lunch.
Following lunch, members participated in the Banner Ceremony and held their first district meeting under McVey's leadership.
The gathering then turned its attention to service, with Lions filling backpacks with school supplies and reusable water bottles. The backpacks will be distributed to children throughout Bedford, Blair, Fulton, Huntingdon and Mifflin counties.
The event provided an opportunity for members from throughout the five-county district to gather for fellowship, leadership and service while supporting communities across the region.
