Commissioners OK $37K for library demo

Work will clear buildings for parking lot project

LEWISTOWN -- Renovations are still ongoing inside the Mifflin County Library in Lewistown.

On Thursday morning at the Mifflin County Courthouse in Lewistown, the Mifflin County Commissioners approved a request for $37,460 which will cover expenses for the demolition of buildings associated with the library's parking lot project at the corner of West Third and North Wayne streets. Keller Engineers will be handling the demolition services.

Additionally, the commissioners approved a professional and administrative services agreement amendment with SEDA-COG in the amount for $93,400 in 2023 to remove the $4,000 Environmental Review fee for the Armagh Township Public Trail Improvements project, and add $4,000 Environmental Review fee for the Milroy South Main Street Ramps/Curb Cuts (Armagh Township) project; remove the $2,300 Davis-Bacon enforcement fee for the Armagh Township Public Trail Improvements Project, and add the $2,300 Davis-Bacon enforcement fee for the Milroy South Main Street Ramps/Curb Cuts project.

Also, in another amendment in 2022 of $115,500 to reflect the changes from the modification to remove the $4,000 Environmental Review fee from the Milroy South Main Street Ramps/Curb cuts project and add $4,000 for the Armagh Township Public Trail Improvements Project Environmental Review; remove the $2,300 fee for Davis-Bacon enforcement from the Milroy South Main St. Ramps/Curb Cuts and add $2,100 to the Armagh Township Public Trail Improvements Project for Davis-Bacon enforcement.

The $200 difference from $2,300 to $2,100 will go back into the project budget due to a decrease in anticipated fees.

For the SEDA-COG project certification for Newton Hamilton Bridge Replacement -- $222,086; review and award Bid for Community Block Grant on behalf of Armagh Township Public Trail Improvements Project - Jay Fulkroad and Sons, Inc. for $63,081.79; and review and Award Bid for CDBG Oliver Township Lockport Stormwater Project -- Mike's Landscaping $115,030.20.

Personnel matters

The commissioners approved the hiring of:

-Laura Mock as children and youth caseworker 1, effective Aug. 24;

-Temeka Walker as children and youth caseworker 1, effective Sept. 8;

-Blaine Kurtz as temporary public defender case manager/intake specialist for the term of Aug. 24, 2026 through Oct. 30;

-Ansh Patel and Melissa Febbo as public defender externs, effective Aug. 25;

-Kamden Everly as part-time corrections officer, effective Sept. 8.

The commissioners approved the resignations of Miranda Foltz, of tax services, effective Aug. 13; and Matthew Rickert, of tax services, effective Aug. 14.

Other business

The commissioners approved:

2027 holiday schedules for prison, courthouse and 911 employees;

Contract renewal with Geisinger Health Plan for employee group health coverage for the period of Jan. 1, 2027 through Dec. 31, 2027;

Agreement with MGM Mechanical, Inc. for boiler system maintenance at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown at a cost of $4,470 annually through 2031.
