Box culvert replacement to close Black Dog Road

McALISTERVILLE -- A box culvert replacement project on Black Dog Road in Juniata County is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 6, prompting a detour expected to remain in place through late August.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said work will take place on Route 2010 (Black Dog Road) at a structure carrying the roadway over a tributary of Cocolamus Creek, about 2 miles southeast of Cocolamus in Delaware Township. The project is intended to improve the ride quality and extend the life of the structure.
Beginning Thursday, Black Dog Road will be closed at the work site, with traffic detoured along Route 2015 (Ehrenzeller Road), Route 2012 (Leister Valley Road) and Route 2017 (Evendale Hill Road). The detour spans about 4 miles.
PennDOT said the closure is expected to remain in effect until late August, although the schedule could change because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
The project is a joint effort between PennDOT's Juniata County maintenance crews and Mid-State Paving LLC of Middleburg. PennDOT crews will perform excavation, remove the existing structure and complete backfilling, while Mid-State Paving will install the new box culvert.
The contract is valued at $390,556.
