MEXICO, Pa. -- Sunday, Aug. 2 is the first day for this year's Island Grove Campmeeting. Campers from all across the country are travelling to Mexico, Pennsylvania to spend time amongst the trees and take part in a week of services that make you feel like you're at an old-time revival. A hymn sing, hot dog roast, bible studies and fellowship are all on the slate for the week-long event.

Services will open on Sunday with an old fashioned hymn sing with the ever popular Bunkertown Men's Chorus joining the service. There will be featured speakers each night of the week-long event. Attendees will hear messages brought by local names such as Stephanie Rupert, Sam Leister, Tom Morningstar, Lydia Huttar Brown and Alex Leight. There will also be special music each night from local talent, including Drew Wagner, Kathryn Hart, The Boyz and Lucy McConnell.

During the week, the Camp Aid society will be collecting canned goods and nonperishable items to donate to the Juniata County Food Pantry. Anyone attending services is encouraged to bring something as they are able.

Services begin at 7:30 p.m. and are followed by refreshments (for a minimal fee) at the Mexico Hilton on the grounds. There will also be youth time and Bible study Monday, Aug. 3 through Friday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. on the grounds. All who are interested or have ever wondered about our services are encouraged to attend. The cottage holders and campers love when visitors stop down on the grounds during the day to see what Island Grove is all about. Everyone is welcome to attend any and all events during the week.

The Island Grove Campmeeting grounds are located at 164 Doe Run Rd., Mifflintown. Those interested can also find information about this year's camp meeting on Facebook and Instagram. Search Island Grove Campmeeting. All are welcome.
