Pool, parade should put patriot pep in your step

BURNHAM -- Got a little patriotic pep left in your step. You are in business because this weekend features several America250 Celebration events. Here's a glance at what is in store:

America250 Celebration at Burnham Pool

An America250 Celebration will be held at the Burnham Pool, located at 200 First Ave., Burnham, on Friday, from noon to 7 p.m. There will be games, door prizes, refreshments and more! Rain date is July 24.

America250 Car Show

The America250 Car Show will take place at the Allensville Fireman's Festival, 161 E. Main St., Allensville, on Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Have a car, truck, motorcycle or tractor of any type? Register and display it at this vehicle show. Register from 9 to 11 a.m. There's a $10 fee. Door prizes up for grabs. Goodie bags and dash plaques for the first 100 entries. Trophies Award to the Top 20 vehicles based on participant voting. Six additional awards. Oldies tunes spun by the All American Cruizers. Food trucks available. The event will be held rain or shine.

Mifflin County America 250 Parade

The official Mifflin County America 250 Parade will take place on Saturday, from 4 to 5 p.m., during the Allensville Fireman's Festival in Allensville. Community groups, businesses, non-profits, churches, families and individuals are encouraged to plan patriotic floats that reflect America's history, heritage and future. Greenwood Furnace outdoor programs

• Firefly watch at Greenwood Furnace, 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, Greenwood Furnace State Park, Huntingdon. Join park staff and Pennsylvania Master Naturalist Carla Rossi for a presentation on fireflies, a firefly craft and the watch. Please bring a chair or blanket and a flashlight to watch fireflies at the ball field.

• Bat Night at Greenwood Furnace, 6 to 10p.m. Saturday, Greenwood Furnace State Park, Huntingdon. Celebrate bats and other creatures of the night during this hands-on program. The evening will conclude with a count of our resident bat population. Please bring a flashlight if you plan to stay for the count. Schedule of activities: bat box building at 6 p.m.; live animals with Centre Wildlife at 7 p.m.; bats and caves with Lincoln Caverns at 8 p.m.; and bat count at 9 p.m.

Sinister Ratrodz Fourth Annual Car Show

Sinister Ratrodz Fourth Annual Car Show is set for Saturday at 80 Armstrong Lane, McClure. Gates open at 8 a.m. Special appearances, contests flamethrowers, live music and much more.

Fairs and festivals

• Allensville Fireman's Festival, 4 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 161 E. Main St., Allensville. Come join them for the annual festival with an exciting weekend of community fun. Be sure to mark your calendars for a special car show on Saturday morning through the afternoon, followed by an extra-large parade Saturday afternoon as part of the celebration. And they'll end the fun with a fireworks display on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. Enjoy delicious food, family fun and great fellowship -- there's something for everyone.

• Tuscarora Valley Heritage Days, 4 to 10 p.m. today, noon to 10 p.m. Friday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, 6201 Route 75 South, East Waterford. Enjoy delicious food, explore vendors, watch the tractor pulls and daily tractor parade, listen to live music and take part in so much more.

• Campfire Friday Night with live music by Remember When, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Seven Mountains Wine Cellars, 324 Decker Valley Road, Spring Mills.

• Allan Combs III, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Hungry Run Wine Bar and Bistro, 10042 Route 522 South, Lewistown.

• Friday Night Music with Hillbilly Diesel, 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Juniata Valley Winery, 18175 Route 35 South, Mifflin.

• Rhyme McCormick, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Hungry Run Distillery, 10 Ridens Road, Lewistown.

• Joe Bonson and Coffee Run, 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Shy Bear Brewing 35 Meadowbrook Lane, Lewistown.
